The Helmeted Honeyeater is a critically endangered yellow and black bird with a distinctive yellow ‘helmet’ that exists in the wild only as a tiny relic population in the Australian state of Victoria where the remaining 20 breeding pairs are all found. It is Victoria’s only endemic bird, and was adopted as Victoria’s bird emblem. Much work has been done to ensure their survival but they are at the brink of extinction with numbers not improving in recent times.
